"About Mr Young of Boston: I agree with Professor Turner [Francis J. Turner, Geology Dept, University of California at Berkeley] that he is not competent in fields that are essential to evaluate antiques."
Prof N. Herz Director of the Center for Archaeological Sciences, University of Georgia, 1995.
"William J.Young's findings have been recklessly set aside by some who seem not to have understood them"
J.J.Herrmann, Curator, Classical Art Dept, MFA Boston, 1997. |
W.J.Young, the research scientist at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, was a specialist in European paintings, who was occasionally asked to verify stone collections. Many other scientists do not agree with his findings. | The tests on the Boston Throne have been questioned because the techniques that he used were allegedly speculative. The conclusions he draws are very specific for the results obtained. Although the tests were repeated by the MFA in 1995 , and the results were the same, the MFA has refused to allow tests by external examiners. |
