The Mythology Depicted on the Boston Throne

"The many dissatisfactory attempts to devise the myths represented [on the Boston Throne] seems to confirm the doubtful authenticity of the sculpture." Paolo Viti, 1996.

The action depicted on the Boston Throne cannot be as simply related to other works of Greek art as that on the Ludovisi Throne. There are a number of problems in interpreting the reliefs. The main areas of concern are:
The depiction of Psychostasia
The identity of the winged youth
The identity of the two female figures

These problems have led to many theories as to exactly what the throne represents.
